Dave Becker – Owner, Grower, Educator – Director of Winemaking
Dave acquired his viticulture and wine making expertise on the job as he grew “One Acre” wines over the last 13 years. While quick to credit others for their important advise and assistance, it’s Dave who cared for and cultivated the One Acre vineyards right from the start. Thus One Acre’s slogan: “One Acre, One Guy, One Wine”.
Understanding the entire farming process so intimately made Dave a firm proponent of the proposition that great wines are really “grown” not “made”. Which is not only evident in wines produced from the three One Acre vineyards, but also the three ACRE wines produced from 100% organically grown fruit, farmed by a multi generation family, with vineyards in the Oakville and Yountville AVAs of the Napa Valley. Which vineyards are within only about five to six miles from Dave’s One Acre vineyards. The ultimate goal then, for both ACRE and One Acre wines is to transmit the distinctive character of each of these special Napa Valley vineyards to the final product.
As an educator Dave shares this knowledge via a viticulture video series that has been viewed by over 500,000 people. Here you follow the development of One Acre and Acre wines from clearing the ground to enjoying the wine.
As the Director of Winemaking for both the One Acre & ACRE brands Dave thoroughly enjoys working with two talented winemaking teams, who like him have a passion for creating classic Napa Valley wines made from truly exceptional vineyards.
Bob Babbe – Owner, Vintner – Director of Sales & Marketing
Bob watched with keen interest as his good friend and Napa neighbor David Becker brought One Acre wines into being. At that time Bob was an owner and national sales manager for Cartlidge & Browne Winery, a well respected value priced brand. However when the winery sold, Bob jumped at the opportunity to join forces with David to launch their new venture, ACRE Napa Valley.
With Cartlidge & Browne, Bob had the pleasure of working with many outstanding fine wine distributors and sales people throughout the 50 states and DC. Now with ACRE, he is pleased to renew these relationships and build new ones. Previously as a partner and sales manager for several fine wine wholesalers, he traveled extensively throughout the world’s wine regions on educational and buying trips. This exposure informed his conviction that first and foremost, wine should be an expression of its distinctive location, soil and climate as well as wine making tradition.
Both Bob and Dave are passionate about the outstanding quality attainable in the Napa Valley. They champion the primacy of agriculture in the production of fine wine and together shape the production and stylistic direction for One Acre and ACRE wines.
